Lines or flickering on the laptop screen
Lines and flicker come from three places: the panel itself, the cable that feeds it through the hinge, or the graphics that generate the picture. Two quick tests separate them, and the cable, the cheapest of the three, is more often the cause than people expect.
Quick answer
Flicker or lines that change when you move the lid: the display cable or connector, sometimes a loose hinge stressing it. Lines that are fixed in place and appear on the laptop screen only: the panel. Lines or artefacts that also appear on an external monitor: the graphics, a board-level fault. Test with an external monitor and by gently moving the lid.

- Update or reinstall the graphics driver if the pattern is on both screens.
- Look at the hinge: any looseness or cracking makes the cable the suspect.
What not to do
- Do not press the lines to "fix" them; pressure marks on a panel are permanent.
- Do not buy a panel because the screen flickers; test the cable first, or let us.
When it is a repair, and which one
We test with a known-good cable before quoting a panel. A cable or connector fix is the cheapest outcome and a common one; a panel is fitted only when the panel is the fault. If a hinge caused it, we fix the hinge in the same job.
